Why Do I Coach?
Coaching has been one of the most profound privileges of my life. The transformations I have been witness to fuels my commitment to my practice.
Several years ago, as a C-level executive, I recall a time when I thought I had no more capacity to lead - I had spent all of my ideas and energy when my organization needed me to be delivering at peak performance. At a time when I was hoping for answers, I discovered that I simply needed a compassionate coach with thoughtful questions. I found the answers I needed in myself - and discovered my strength along the journey.
Today, my experiences as a leader and coachee allow me to listen with empathy - and allow me to ask questions that lead to profound insights.
What is Coaching?
Coaching is a collaborative, confidential partnership between a coach and an individual seeking to understand and reach their full potential.
Coaching is an art - involving a mastery of listening and asking meaningful questions. Through a process of discovery, goal setting and specific action, this journey can lead to extraordinary results.
“Our chief want in life is somebody who will make us do what we can.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
My coaching style is forthright and compassionate.
I believe coaching enhances the quality of life for both the individual being coached and the people in their life - enabling individuals to operate at their full capacity with curiosity and confidence.
Coaching can help people in being clear about their passion, purpose and the legacy they wish to leave in the world.
As a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), I am committed to upholding and adhering to all elements and principles of ethical conduct defined in the ICF Core Competencies.
In addition to the ICF principles, I have developed a supplemental Method, using the McBaird Coaching Card Deck™ - created specifically for my coaching practice. All of my clients receive this deck as part of their overall coaching package. Through the use of metaphor and storytelling, my coachees find themselves able to explore perspectives and ideas - discovering personal insights that they had not imagined to exist.
"I had the privilege of working with Val as a business coach during my first year of ups and downs launching my new business. I couldn't have done it without her! She is everything you’re looking for in a coach: patient, compassionate, reliable, and thought-provoking. She knows just the right questions to make you think through your options and help you achieve your goals. " Entrepreneur
"... I was so impressed by her compassion, empathy, and insight. She was able to simultaneously help me with the big picture and vision while offering practical solutions to my day-to-day challenges. I really appreciate her positive outlook and ability to withhold judgment and frame challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. My time with her had a huge impact on me, and I am still using the many techniques she taught me." Director of Research
"Have you ever had the feeling that someone was born to be doing what she or he is doing? That's the exact feeling I had when I first met Val and she became my business coach/mentor. She has this unique ability to pull out answers you may not know that you know, guide you out of tough situations, and use her creative mind to encourage you to explore any and all possibilities. Val often refers to the "hero’s journey" in conversations, but I don't know if she knows that she has quickly become a hero to many people who are lucky enough to be associated with her. She has helped me climb over mountains, and out of sinkholes, and I feel incredibly honoured and grateful to have her in my life." Director of Innovation, ATB
